In 2014 we contributed £500,000 to Southport & Formby District General Hospital for a new chemotherapy and haematology centre.
We have also raised £1.25 million towards an iMRI scanner for the Walton Centre, which will enable surgeons to scan patients during surgery and significantly reduce the need for further operations following the removal of brain tumours.
Paul May: of The Walton Centre: “It is phenomenally generous of Marina and her family to have dedicated all their fundraising efforts over the last two years to supporting our hospital."
“Their support means that we can realise a much-cherished dream of providing an amazing new scanning facility. The intraoperative MRI will give neurosurgeons the assurance that they have removed as much of a tumour as possible without the need for further surgery."
“At present it is not possible to confirm that an operation has been fully successful without a follow-up scan. "With this scanner the imaging can take place within a theatre while the patient is still on the operating table. It improves safety and efficiency and it is a huge benefit to our patients.”
We recently reached our target for a new Mammogram machine which will be used at The Marina Dalglish Breast Unit at Aintree University Hospital, cutting waiting times for patients.
